Daniel Dubois has explained why he’s decided to part ways with trainer Don Charles.

Dubois and Charles had a successful relationship over the past few years, which saw ‘DDD’ become IBF heavyweight champion and earn stoppage wins over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua.

It led to an undisputed heavyweight title showdown with Oleksandr Usyk at Wembley Stadium in July, which the Ukrainian won by fifth round knockout to add the IBF belt to his WBC, WBA and WBO collection.

Controversy arose when it emerged after the bout that Dubois had been involved in a pre-fight party on the day of the contest, while Kieran Farrell has since departed the coaching team and Sam Jones was brought in to help guide his career moving forward.

The latest major change came this week when it was revealed that Charles would no longer be head trainer, and Dubois has revealed on his social media exactly why that is.

“I want to take this moment to thank Don Charles and his team for all the time, effort, and hard work they’ve put into me over the past 18 months. I’m truly grateful for everything.

“That said, I feel it’s time for a change, a fresh approaching for the next phase of my career as I push forward to become a two-time heavyweight champion of the world.

“I’ll be making a further announcement regarding my new team structure very soon.”

While Dubois is yet to confirm his new team, he is set to partner with current Conor Benn coach and former Anthony Joshua trainer Tony Sims as he aims to reclaim world honours.
