Daniel Dubois is the form man in the heavyweight division.
His last three wins are up there with the best in any weight having first beaten Jarrell Miller by stoppage in the dying seconds of their 10-round clash last December. He then did the same to Filip Hrgovic in June also in Saudi Arabia, and in September at Wembley Stadium he knocked out Anthony Joshua inside five rounds after a career-best performance.
The current IBF champion has lost only twice before that, once to Joe Joyce after sustaining heavy damage to his eye which caused him to take a knee and the 10-count in order to fight another day. Then against Oleksandr Usyk in August 2023, although he did have his man down with a body shot that was ruled a low blow.
It was expected that Dubois’ next fight would be an immediate rematch against Joshua, however, ‘DDD’s promoter Frank Warren told The Mail that he believes ‘AJ’ won’t risk running it back.
“I don’t believe that when it comes to it Joshua is going to risk taking that fight. Not after being knocked out like that.”
Although Dubois will most likely still fight in February a Usyk rematch down the line certainly appeals to the IBF champion, as he told Podlounge UK that he will win in emphatic fashion should they meet again.
“I’ll smash him next time, smash him for sure. It’ll be a good fight but I’m a different fighter now, every fight I’ve had has improved me and I’m battle-hardened, whoever wants it can get it. These guys they’re getting older so I’ll send them all into retirement.”
It’s a clash that Warren is more than happy to make.
“I would like to see Daniel rematch that defeat by Usyk in a fight I still believe he won with a legal body shot, not a low blow.”
