Former champion Duke McKenzie has given his insight into the key areas of the upcoming heavyweight showdown between Derek Chisora and Deontay Wilder.
It is fair to say that both of these fighters are past their best. Both men are also over forty years of age, with each of them heading into what will be their 50th contest.
Although Chisora has never won a world title and has lost to the likes of Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte, he is the man in a better run of form after beating Gerald Washington, Joe Joyce and Otto Wallin in his last three.
Former WBC ruler Wilder, however, has just one win in his last five, having been twice knocked out by Fury, once by Zhilei Zhang, and after a points loss to Joseph Parker.
Speaking to Seconds Out, McKenzie explained what he thinks will be the difference between the two big hitters.
“This is what makes the fight so interesting, and it is an interesting fight, because if nothing else, it doesn’t matter if these two have both left; they still hit hard enough to knock each other out.
“So this fight is going to be down to two main things – first thing is the endurance of each fighter, how much has each fighter got left in the tank? The second is it comes down to the concentration levels; it will be the one who can concentrate for the longest period of time, who doesn’t make that slip, who doesn’t get that big shot.
“If the fight between those two is over here and it’s at the O2, I think you’ve got to back Chisora.”
The Chisora vs. Wilder fight takes place on April 4 and indeed at the O2 Arena.
