Roberto Duran Names The Fighter He Faced With The Best Jab

The legendary Roberto Duran has revealed the one opponent in particular that he faced during his career with the best jab.

Duran is widely regarded as being one of the greatest fighters to have ever laced up a pair of gloves in any era.

The Panamanian great captured multiple world titles across four weight divisions during his tenure, including the undisputed lightweight championship which he held back in 1978.

He became a member of boxing’s ‘Four Kings’ during the 1980s alongside former rivals Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns and Sugar Ray Leonard.

His 1980 rematch defeat to Leonard, which is more commonly known as the ‘No Mas fight’, is often considered to be one of the most memorable moments in boxing history.

In a resurfaced feature with The Ring Magazine, Duran named none other than Scottish boxing legend Ken Buchanan as the one opponent that he faced during his glittering career with the best jab.

“Ken Buchanan: He was tall, boxed well and his lateral movement was extremely good. Buchanan’s jab was difficult to deal with because he threw it on the move.”

Duran challenged Buchanan for the WBA world lightweight title in June of 1972 at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The bout ended in controversy however, after Duran hit Buchanan with a low-blow in round 13 of their clash. The referee later waved off the contest after Buchanan found himself unable to continue.

Buchanan was undisputed lightweight champion in his career, and finished with a record of 61 wins from 69 fights.
