Roberto Duran Says ‘Weak’ Floyd Mayweather Shouldn’t Have Undefeated Record: “He Beat Him”

Floyd Mayweather ended his career with a perfect 50-0 unbeaten record.

Mayweather was a five-weight world champion from super-featherweight to super-welterweight, defeating fighters such as Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley and Miguel Cotto.

He’s widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters of his generation, but it seems that a fellow boxing legend disagrees with that assessment.

Roberto Duran was a four-weight world champion, and was only the second boxer after Jack Johnson to have competed over five separate decades.

Duran is also viewed as one of the best of all time, and he was asked by One On One Boxing how he thinks he would have fared against Mayweather.

“For me he is a boxer that’s weak. He doesn’t like being hit to the body, and as soon as he gets hit there, he turns into a road runner, and I have much more experience than him.”

Duran then revealed he believes the American shouldn’t have his unbeaten record.

“He fought a Mexican, the Mexican beat him, but they gave it to him [Mayweather]. Then he fought another, he lost but got the decision. I believe he’s lost three fights but they’ve gifted him those wins.”

While Duran didn’t name anybody, it’s likely one of the fights he is referring to is Mayweather’s clash with Jose Luis Castillo back in April 2002, with many onlookers believing that Castillo should have got the win.

Instead Mayweather won a close points decision, before then coming out on top again in the rematch eight months later. Duran isn’t the only big name to claim that Mayweather shouldn’t be unbeaten, with the American’s former foe Canelo also doing the same.
