Eddie Hearn has weighed in on who he thinks is the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet right now.

Hearn has worked with some of the modern game’s most talented boxers over the last 15-plus years. From guiding Anthony Joshua to becoming a two-time unified champion to representing the likes of Canelo Alvarez, working with Devin Haney and helping Oleksandr Usyk establish himself at heavyweight.

Most recently, it is Terence Crawford who has had his name in lights after becoming a three-weight undisputed champion following his points win over ‘Canelo’ in August.

That has seen many people place Crawford as their pound-for-pound number one, but speaking to iFL TV, Hearn broke down why he thinks Usyk is the best fight on the planet right now.

“Who has Crawford beat from the pound-for-pound list? The answer is Canelo Alvarez, and maybe Errol Spence at the time who was somewhere near the back end of the top 10 at the time, but when he fought Shawn Porter, when he fought Kell Brook, when he fought Amir Khan, when he fought Gamboa, it’s important that you get what I’m saying.

“I think he’s the most skilled fighter on the planet. It’s not his fault, he could have beaten those real elite guys in his prime but he never got to fight them.

“And then I look at Usyk and I go Fury, who I believe was in his prime, right at the top of his game, AJ, two or three years ago, Dubois who is a young man and particular the second victory against Dubois when he was firing on all cylinders, but even when I go back to cruiserweight, he was beating those guys in their back yard. He pips it, but it’s very close. “

Hearn’s view can be accepted, as Usyk is the only ever two-time undisputed heavyweight ruler in the four-belt era, and an undisputed cruiserweight champion.

He is fast approaching 40 and has just a couple of fights left, with the likes of Jake Paul and Joseph Parker both still in the running, but either way he has announced he will soon be back with a bang.
