Promoter Eddie Hearn has spoken about the potential purse that Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez could pocket if he was to fight Jake Paul.

Canelo is the undisputed super-middleweight champion and former belt holder in the super-welterweight, middleweight and light-heavyweight divisions.

He has been professional since he was a teenager and has had over 60 fights, now reaching the twilight of his career looking for the very biggest challenges, and paydays, having only ever lost twice – once to Floyd Mayweather, and once to Dmitry Bivol.

Whilst the fights fans want to see come against the likes of Terence Crawford and David Benavidez, recent reports suggest that the Mexican may have answered the incessant calls from one Jake Paul for a May bout.

Paul is 11-1 as a pro fighter and largely made his name in the sport fighting former UFC fighters. Last year he had a controversial and ultimately underwhelming eight-rounder against Mike Tyson. There is no question, however, that he is a superstar in his own right and an extremely lucrative opponent for anyone.

Speaking to iFL TV, Hearn was asked how much ‘Canelo’ could earn from the fight.

“My guess for the number for that fight is somewhere between 60 and 80 million for Canelo.”

He then broke down the potential pay-per-view buys should the bout not land on Netflix, which hosted Paul-Tyson.

“The fight does, on Pay Per View, at $90, the fight does potentially two million buys, which is $180m of revenue, just TV revenue.”

Whether or not this is the fight that fans want to see, it could well happen on Cinco de May and be another huge event for the boxing world and an epic payday for ‘Canelo,’ as well as being another historic opponent for Paul.

As for competitive bouts, news has emerged that an ‘agreed’ fight against Crawford is now off the table for September.
