Promoter Eddie Hearn has had his say on the wild prospect of former world super-middleweight champion Carl Froch facing John Fury in the ring this year.
John showed up at the press conference for Tyson Fury’s return to the sport against Arslanbek Makhmudov earlier this week in an attempt to confront Froch in person after the British boxing legend made multiple comments about the 60-year-old over the last few years
Froch has been quite vocal about the entire Fury family in the past and has often criticised John as well as former unified world heavyweight champion Tyson and his brother Tommy, who is unbeaten in 11 bouts as a professional.
After ‘The Cobra’ revealed that he would be interested in a potential Misfits clash with John Fury, the 48-year-old’s former promoter Eddie Hearn has spoken out and had his say on the controversial match-up.
In an interview with The Stomping Ground, Hearn surprisingly admitted he would like to see Froch and John Fury clash as he claims he would back ‘The Cobra’ against ‘virtually anyone’.
“I like it. That’s great. I’d like to see it go off if I’m honest with you, do you know what I mean? John Fury is a big lump, but I’d actually back Carl Froch against virtually anyone on the cobbles.”
Froch has not fought as a professional since he defeated domestic rival George Groves in their rematch back in May of 2014, but the 48-year-old from Nottingham has left the door open for a return to action in the last year and is reportedly open to fighting under the Misfits Boxing banner should an opportunity arise.
Despite John Fury’s willingness, it would be a shock if anything did materialise.
