Jaron Ennis appears to be in the sights of many big stars following his move to super-welterweight.
Ennis made a big statement in his 154lb debut last weekend after knocking out Uisma Lima inside the very first round, claiming the vacant WBA interim super-welterweight title and extending his undefeated record to 35-0 with 31 knockouts and one no contest.
It’s the latest step in the career of ‘Boots’ after a successful campaign at 147lbs that saw him become unified IBF and WBA welterweight champion after victories over the likes of Eimantas Stanionis and David Avanesyan.
Following his win over Lima, Ennis made it clear that his next target is a showdown against fellow unbeaten fighter Vergil Ortiz, but he also mentioned other names including that of Jermell Charlo.
In a social media clip, former super-welterweight king Charlo responded, making it clear that he believes he would cause all sorts of issues for ‘Boots.’
“I think Boots is a great fighter, but I give him all the problems in the world. Styles make fights.”
Charlo previously held all four world titles at 154lbs after wins over fighters such as Brian Castano and Austin Trout, but hasn’t fought since stepping up to super-middleweight to challenge Canelo Alvarez in September 2023.
He has teased a return to the ring in recent months, and a potential match-up between Ennis and Charlo would certainly be one that would interest fans.
