Jaron Ennis has finally spoken about sharing the ring with Canelo Alvarez ahead of the upcoming showdown against Terence Crawford.

This weekend sees two of boxing’s pound-for-pound best collide as Canelo defends his undisputed super-middleweight crown against Crawford at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Crawford is stepping up two weight divisions to 168lbs for the clash, looking to become the first male boxing in history to become undisputed in three divisions after already achieving it at super-lightweight and welterweight.

It was at 147lbs where ‘Bud’ claimed arguably the biggest win of his career, stopping Errol Spence in July 2023 to claim all four world titles, before the belts then began to fragment.

One man who ended up with two of those world titles was Ennis, who was WBA and IBF welterweight champion before relinquishing those belts earlier this year in order to step up to 154lbs.

In preparation for that move to super-welterweight, Ennis joined Canelo in camp for some sparring, in a move that didn’t seem to impress Crawford’s team.

‘Boots’ has now shared his view on the situation, initially needing just three words to tell YSM Sports Media what he made of the experience.

“It was phenomenal.”

Ennis expanded:

“I loved being out there, it was fun, I had a great time. Being in there with Canelo who has 70 fights, it was cool sharing the ring with him, having fun and learning different things.

“It was the perfect time because I’m moving up in weight and I wanted to experience something different. I always do camp in Philly and I just wanted to do something different, and next time I think I’m going to take my full camp over there to where he was at, I loved it out there, it was great.

“Why not share the ring with Canelo and be in there with a Hall of Famer, a legend and the face of boxing, why not? The work was great. You could say it made the fight more interesting and people want to tune in a bit more to see what’s going to happen.”

Ennis then responded to those who criticised him for sparring the Mexican superstar.

“I don’t care [what people say]. I went out there for myself, it weren’t for anybody else. I went out there and got to experience being in the ring with Canelo and having fun. I had a great time sparring him.”

‘Boots’ has his first fight at super-welterweight in October when he faces Uisma Lima, but for now the entire eyes of the boxing world are on Saturday’s battle between Canelo and Crawford.
