Jaron Ennis is the latest big name to weigh in on Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach.
It was a controversial night for ‘Tank’ on Saturday, who was held to a majority decision draw against Roach at the Barclays Center in New York.
Some fans felt that Roach had done enough to win, especially considering in the ninth round Davis voluntarily took a knee, but the referee chose not to give him a count.
IBF welterweight champion Ennis is currently preparing for a big fight of his own, as he takes on WBA champion Eimantas Stanionis in a unification contest next month.
Ahead of that fight, Ennis has now offered his take on Davis vs. Roach whilst speaking to YSM Sports Media, first revealing how he scored the contest.
“It was a great fight. I had 7-5 Tank or you could make it a draw. I feel like Lamont did a great job but I don’t think he did enough to pull it off.
People were overlooking what Tank was throwing in the first five, six rounds. He was boxing and frustrating him a little bit, but like I said before Lamont did a great job.”
Ennis also believes people are saying Davis should have lost due to their personal feelings towards him.
“I feel like people just don’t like Tank to the point where any little thing like he didn’t knock him out, people feel like he lost. He didn’t it was a draw.
Tank was doing a lot of smart things in the beginning. Moving a little bit too much but he was still frustrating him. I think Tank did a good job. He looked sharp to me. At the end of the you can’t please everybody.”
Ennis isn’t the only world champion to share their scorecard for the fight, with WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson also offering his thoughts.
