Jaron Ennis made an instant impact in his super-welterweight debut.

After become unified world champion at welterweight, ‘Boots’ decided to vacate his belts in order to move up to 154lbs, with his first bout in the new division coming against Uisma Lima in Philadelphia on Saturday.

It didn’t take Ennis long to get the victory, as he dropped his rival twice on his way to a first round knockout victory, extending his unbeaten record to 35-0 with 31 knockouts and claiming the interim WBA super-welterweight title in the process.

Following the victory, fans have already began to speculate about what could be next for Ennis, and he immediately made it clear following his win who he wants to face.

Speaking to The Ring, ‘Boots’ declared that his next target is fellow undefeated fighter and current interim WBC super-welterweight champion Vergil Ortiz.

“Vergil is next for me… We about to shut everybody up.”

Ortiz has a record of 23-0, 21 of those wins coming by knockout, with his last victory coming in February when he defeated former world champion Israil Madrimov by unanimous decision.

A fight between ‘Boots’ and Ortiz has been touted for over a year, with Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn recently claiming they have already signed their side of the deal for Ennis to take the fight, but first Ortiz must defeat Erickson Lubin in November.

Ortiz isn’t the only fighter that Ennis has been linked to this year, with a former undisputed world champion also seemingly having a clash with ‘Boots’ in his sights.
