Jaron Ennis has given his view on a potential super-fight between Jesse Rodriguez and Naoya Inoue.
Back in June, ‘Bam’ stopped Antonio Vargas with a sixth-round technical knockout to become a three-weight world champion. The 26-year-old now has a pristine 24-0 record and has held world titles at super-flyweight and flyweight as well as now bantamweight.
Although he could stay in the division to fight WBO champion Christian Medina and attempt to unify the division, many fans hope he opts to move up to super-bantamweight to take on undisputed champion Inoue.
The Japanese fighter has held multiple world championships in four weight classes and, alongside Oleksandr Usyk and Terence Crawford, he is one of only three male fighters to become undisputed champion in two weight classes during the four-belt era.
Speaking to Ring Champs with Ak & Barak and All The Smoke Fight, two-weight world champion Ennis laid out why he thinks Rodriguez has enough to beat ‘The Monster.’
“Bam, super nice, I ain’t going to lie. I think [he can beat Inoue], I think he’s smart enough, technically sound, good movement, and he’s southpaw, and I think that probably give Inoue enough problems.”
Inoue last fought in May when he beat Junto Nakatani over 12 rounds to take his record to 33 wins from 33 contests, with 27 coming by way of knockout.
Although this is the fight many fans want to see, ‘Bam’s trainer Robert Garcia has issued a note of caution and suggested his man must not move to another division too soon, instead preferring him to have one more contest at bantamweight before heading to 122lbs.
