Mexican legend Erik Morales has predicted the outcome of Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming return to boxing.
‘PacMan’ will challenge reigning WBC world welterweight champion Mario Barrios at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday July 19.
The Filipino icon will end a four year hiatus from boxing when he faces ‘El Azteca’ next month, with his last ring appearance ending in defeat when he fought former WBA world welterweight champion Yordenis Ugas in the summer of 2021.
The 46-year-old did make brief returns to the ring in exhibition contests in 2022 and 2024 however, facing mixed martial artists Rukiya Anpo and DK Yoo respectively.
In an interview with Fight Hype, Erik Morales, who faced Pacquiao on three occasions, winning once but getting stopped twice, has shared his thoughts on his former rival’s shock comeback to the sport.
“Well he’s going to return to the ring because he still wants to be a boxer. We’ve all had that moment and I hope it all goes well for him.”
‘El Terrible’ was then asked to send a message of support to Pacquiao, as he wishes the 46-year-old well ahead of his showdown with Barrios.
“Congratulations for all your work. I hope it all goes well for you.”
History beckons for Pacquiao as he will become the oldest welterweight champion in boxing history if he is successful next month, potentially breaking the record that he actually set himself back in 2019 when he defeated Keith Thurman to become WBA world champion at 40-years-old.
