Mexican Legend Erik Morales Has No Doubt Who Wins Canelo vs Benavidez: “He Has No Technique”

Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez versus David Benavidez is, despite the former’s dismissal, one of the biggest fights in boxing.

Canelo is the unified champion at 168lbs, formerly undisputed, and Benavidez is an undefeated two-time titlist in the division. He presents, as is widely agreed, the toughest test at the weight for Alvarez.

Every fan, fighter and pundit in the sport has an idea of how they think the fight would play out. That includes Erik Morales, the first Mexican to become a four-division world champion, laying the path for Canelo to do the same years later.

‘El Terrible’ strongly backs Canelo in the bout should it take place, saying Benavidez ‘has no technique’ in a clip shared by the Gonchali channel.

“With all due respect to Benavidez, he has no technique, his technique is very limited, he is very aggressive, he goes with his hands down, he throws himself in order to get there.

Canelo is no comparison with the other rivals that he has already beaten. Because he has experience and he knows where to hit. Canelo has enough experience to handle the fight. If Canelo we saw in the fight [against Jaime Munguia] appears against Benavidez, I think it will not be easy for Benavidez.”

The most recent update in the rivalry actually pushes the fight further away. Benavidez, tired of chasing his shot at super-middleweight, moved up to light-heavy and became mandatory challenger for the WBC title with a win over Oleksandr Gvozdyk. He will defend that status against David Morrell with a date yet to be announced.

As for Alvarez, he is set to return in May of 2025 and will start the search for an opponent imminently.
