Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford will take place in less than three months.
Two of the pound-for-pound best fighters in the world will meet when Canelo and Crawford collide in Las Vegas on Saturday 13 September, live on Netflix.
It sees ‘Bud’ step up two weight classes to challenge Canelo for his undisputed super-middleweight titles, with the Mexican superstar once again becoming the sole ruler of the 168lb division after defeating William Scull last month.
The fight against Alvarez will be the biggest of Crawford’s career so far, surpassing the undisputed welterweight title showdown he had with long-term rival Errol Spence back in 2023.
It was expected to be a close encounter between ‘Bud’ and Spence, but Crawford was victorious in impressive fashion, dropping Spence three times on his way to a dominant ninth round stoppage win.
Spence’s former coach Derrick James knows what it is like to train a fighter to take on both Canelo and Crawford, having also been in the corner when Jermell Charlo unsuccessfully challenged Alvarez in September 2023.
With the fight between Canelo and Crawford quickly approaching, James has given his verdict on the bout whilst speaking to Fight Hub TV.
“The thing about Crawford is, he believes he’s on it. He believes he’s the one. That’s the difference between him and any other fighter that Canelo fights. People fight the idea of Canelo Alvarez, as appose to fighting the individual. The thought of him is what puts fear in their heart, but he doesn’t care about that because he’s Terence Crawford, so it’s a totally different thing.
“If he [Crawford] can implement his strategy and ride it out until the end of the fight, he’s going to be successful. If Canelo does what he needs to do then the timing has to be on point, because he’s not as fast as Crawford, so it’s all about timing.”
WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis is another big name that has recently given his take on the upcoming mega-fight, stating Crawford is only taking it for the money.
