Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn Rematch Suffers Shock Pull Out

The rematch between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn looks to be in major trouble.

The ‘born rivals’ were first scheduled to face off back in 2022 before a failed doping test on Benn’s part saw the whole fight card canned. When he was cleared to fight again on British soil, the bout was rescheduled and took place in April at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

What followed was twelve all-action rounds that make up a fight of the year contender. Both men, drawn into a war, had success throughout. It was Eubank who came out on top via unanimous decision having finished extremely strongly. Benn, however, left with high praise due to moving up two weight classes and making it competitive.

Though Eubank’s side criticised the weight restrictions – the middleweight limit of 160lbs with a 10lbs rehydration clause on the morning of the fight – the rematch was recently announced on the same terms.

Benn cast doubt on his rival’s willingness to take part, causing confusion as to how solid the second fight plan really was.Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed they were ready to negotiate with other potential opponents soon should it all fall apart.

The Ring Magazine now reports that Riyadh Season, Sela and the Ring – all driven by boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh – will have no involvement in the second fight.

Alalshikh was the man to first announce the fight was on..

What this means remains to be seen, however due to Alalshikh’s extreme influence in the sport and previous particular interest in the match-up, it is perhaps unlikely that promoters Matchroom (Benn) and BOXXER (Eubank) will proceed without his backing.

With just nine weeks out from the fight date and a major campaign required for such a stadium fight, fans should expect news soon.
