Chris Eubank Jr. has previewed the highly anticipated heavyweight rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois.
Usyk and Dubois are set to face each other in their highly anticipated rematch tonight at Wembley Stadium in London, just shy of two years on from their controversial first encounter which took place in August of 2023.
The stakes are even higher this time around however, as the undisputed heavyweight championship will be up for grabs for both men, although Usyk could write his name into the boxing history books by becoming the first two-time undisputed heavyweight champion during the four-belt era.
Their first bout ended with Usyk stopping the hard-hitting Brit in the ninth round, although the Ukrainian superstar actually hit the canvas four rounds prior to the stoppage. The referee later ruled this shot to be a low blow, sparking outrage from Dubois’ team who believed it was a legitimate body shot.
Whilst speaking to TalkSport, Eubank Jr shared his thoughts on what he believes the outcome of Usyk and Dubois’ rematch will be, as he claims he is ‘rooting for’ his fellow countryman.
“I saw something about Usyk saying that he thought Conor Benn won the fight. I don’t know if this is true, I can’t imagine that he watched that fight and thought that Conor Benn won. I landed twice as many punches, but people are telling me it’s true.
“If that’s the truth, then I’m rooting for Dubois because that’s crazy. That’s really crazy to me. I’ve met Usyk a bunch of times and we’ve always been cool so I was shocked to see that.
“Daniel Dubois is on a roll. He’s coming off of a massive win against AJ. Usyk is also on a massive roll, I think that fight will come down to mindset. In the last fight they both showed mental weakness.
“Usyk took a three minute break in that fight for a shot that some people say was low, some people say it wasn’t, but he still took that break. Dubois crumbled under the pressure after that. I think it will come down to who’s mentally more prepared to tough this fight out. I’m interested to see what happens.”
Dubois will also be keen on writing his own name into the boxing history books, as he looks to become the first Brit to win the undisputed heavyweight championship within the ‘four belt era’, surpassing Lennox Lewis in the process.
