Chris Eubank Sr Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If Carl Froch Beats Prime Nigel Benn

Chris Eubank Sr has been musing on a fantastic match-up between his old foe Nigel Benn and more recent super middleweight champion Carl Froch.

Eubank and Benn fought during a golden era for middleweights and super-middleweights from Britain and Ireland. They had a fierce rivalry, fought twice, with one draw and one victory for Eubank Sr, while both also met the likes of Michael Watson and Steve Collins back in the late 80s and 90s.

Froch emerged later than both, in the early 2000s, and held three different world titles on a number of occasions, before hanging up his gloves in 2014 after a knockout victory over George Groves.

Speaking to Now Boxing, Eubank explained his views on a fight between Froch and Benn, and hints at a tough night for ‘The Cobra.’

“I have to be very careful what I say. But any fight with Nigel Benn 100% depends on whether the opponent can absorb the hardest head punch they’ve ever been hit with, unless Benn went in with the attitude he went in with against Watson and Malinga which was to throw at arms and elbows until burn-out, in a demented fashion, with no focus on defense. So whether Carl would absorb Nigel’s punch, I don’t know. But I doubt it.

Carl isn’t the most finesse of boxers and doesn’t like a mover. He has long arms so struggles inside. What did I possess? Dexterous foot movement and complexity of short punch. You can draw your own conclusion.”

Froch would always back himself in any contest because of his chin, not least one with Joe Calzaghe, who spanned both Froch and Eubank’s eras, fought 46 times and retired undefeated, though shouldn’t have according to Froch.
