Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn are set to renew their rivalry in the ring this November.
These generational rivals first fought in April after more than two years of build-up. The fight lived up to the hype and was an all-action 12 rounder in which Eubank, the naturally bigger man, ran out a unanimous points winner.
For the rematch, Benn will again be going up to 160lbs from his usual welterweight limit, and Eubank, who has reunited with trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, will again be restricted to how much weight he can put on after the weigh-in and ahead of the first bell.
Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, Eubank’s promoter Ben Shalom expressed his dismay at the rehydration clause, but revealed that his man hasn’t committed to it yet.
“We aren’t happy with the rehydration clause. Chris isn’t committed to that rehydration clause again, as of yet. The initial time that was put to us it was an ultimatum. It was the fight is not happening unless this. So Chris is in a difficult position.
“Everything was agreed, everything, we’ve gone through the contract and done every single clause. We get to the last moment just before the press conference and then it was landed on us, an ultimatum like that.”
Shalom then admitted Eubank had agreed to the clause, even if it was against his will.
“In the end, Chris is a money man, and he accepted the challenge. Is it healthy, is it right? Should it be banned from boxing? Absolutely. It should not be used in this fight.”
The same conditions were in place for the first fight, and although it didn’t seem to hamper his performance, he did end up spending some time in hospital recovering on a drip to replace the fluids he had lost.
