Boxing legend Evander Holyfield has shared his thoughts on Terence Crawford’s history making victory over Canelo Alvarez on Saturday night.

‘Bud’ Crawford defeated the Mexican star via unanimous decision at a packed-out Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to capture the undisputed super-middleweight championship.

The judges at ringside scored the bout 115-113, 115-113 and 116-112 all in favour of the unbeaten American, who became the first male fighter in the history of boxing to win an undisputed championship in three weight classes.

There had been concerns raised about ‘Bud’ making such a significant jump up in weight to face Canelo, but he proved all of the doubters wrong on the night, setting a fast pace from the outset that the Mexican icon struggled to match.

Speaking to Fight Hype, former undisputed heavyweight champion Holyfield was asked to share his verdict on Crawford’s historic victory, as he claims it was a ‘perfect’ performance.

“It was great, that was a perfect fight man, it’s a perfect fight.”

‘The Real Deal’ was then asked where he believes Canelo could go from here, and whether he thinks the Mexican star can bounce back from the third defeat of his career or should hang up the gloves.

“You know, everybody makes mistakes … Yeah, of course he can [bounce back].”

Whilst it remains to be seen whether ‘Bud’ will continue with what has been an outstanding professional career, the Omaha-native could be tempted by a move down to middleweight where he could become a six-division world champion.

As for Canelo, the 35-year-old from Guadalajara now finds himself at a cross-roads in his own career, although he has confirmed he will continue fighting.
