Evander Holyfield has named the heavyweight who he believes was unbeatable during his prime years.
The American heavyweight icon had an exceptional professional career which commenced a short while after he picked up an Olympic bronze medal at the 1984 games in Los Angeles, California.
He became the undisputed cruiserweight champion when he beat Carlos De Leon in April 1988 and followed this up with repeating the same feat at heavyweight, knocking out James ‘Buster’ Douglas in the third round of their bout just 2-years later.
Holyfield defended his undisputed heavyweight championship on three occasions, including wins over all-time-great heavyweights ‘Big’ George Foreman and Larry Holmes.
There was one fighter, however, who in the eyes of ‘The Real Deal’ would have defeated all-comers at heavyweight during his golden years.
In a resurfaced YouTube video by Tru School Sports, Holyfield paid homage to former rival Riddick Bowe, telling him he was unbeatable throughout his prime and backed him to ‘bust up’ any opponent.
“You were a different character then [in your prime]. You would of bust everybody up.”
‘Big Daddy’ Bowe dethroned Holyfield of his undisputed heavyweight championship in the first of their three bouts in November 1992, but would fall short in their rematch exactly 12-months later.
Bowe would go on to settle their score in their third and final encounter at the end of 1995 in a non-title bout. ‘Big Daddy’ knocked Holyfield out in the eighth round, putting one of the greatest rivalries in the history of boxing to an end.
