A legend of the heavyweight division has named his victory over Mike Tyson as the easiest of his decorated professional career.
Known for his unique ‘peek-a-boo’ fighting style and thunderous punching power, Tyson is often credited with being one of the greatest heavyweights of all time.
He captured the world heavyweight championship for the first time back in 1986 when he produced a record-breaking victory over Trevor Berbick to become the youngest heavyweight champion of all time.
Tyson became the undisputed heavyweight championship shortly after, a crown he held up until he suffered a monumental upset defeat to countryman James ‘Buster’ Douglas in February of 1990, the first loss of his professional career.
Despite the success he enjoyed at the peak of his powers, ‘Iron Mike’ suffered a number of defeats in the later years with one of these coming against the legendary Lennox Lewis.
Speaking to The Ring Magazine, Lewis reflected on a conversation he had with trainer Manny Steward prior to his 2002 showdown with Tyson, which he claims was undoubtedly the ‘easiest fight of his career’.
“Emanuel Steward told me it would be my easiest fight. And I went like ‘My easiest fight?’ and he said, ‘Yes that’s gonna be your easiest fight.’
“And then I realised why he said that. All my fights leading up to that was preparation for Tyson.”
British-Canadian great Lewis knocked Tyson out in the 8th round of their clash at The Pyramid in Memphis back in the summer of 2002 to successfully defend his WBC and IBF world heavyweight titles.
