A retired heavyweight champion has predicted the outcome of Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford.
The modern pound-for-pound greats are set to lock horns in a mega-fight later this year, with the Mexican icon due to defend his unified world super-middleweight titles against ‘Bud’ Crawford at an unconfirmed venue in Las Vegas.
Crawford is bidding to become a five-division world champion against Canelo, but faces what is undoubtedly the toughest test of his glittering professional career against a man who has been a dominant force at 168lbs over the last seven years.
There is one fighter in particular that has given their full backing to the 37-year-old from Omaha, who is tasked with stepping up two whole weight divisions ahead of the September showdown, which is set to be officially announced in due course.
Speaking to ESNews, former world heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs didn’t hesitate to predict a ‘brutal’ stoppage win for his countryman, revealing he has bet a substantial sum of money on Crawford getting the job done.
“I got Crawford by stoppage, a brutal stoppage. I’m telling you, Crawford by stoppage, I’ve got $100,000 on it.”
Crawford will be patiently waiting for the result of Canelo’s upcoming showdown with IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull, which takes place on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Should the Mexican superstar be victorious against Scull, it will see Canelo become a two-time undisputed champion at 168lbs, raising the stakes of his mega-fight against ‘Bud’ Crawford even higher than they had originally been.
