A former British world champion has announced that he will be be replacing the late, great Ricky Hatton in his planned comeback fight.
The United Kingdom has been home to a number of world champions over the past decade or so, with the likes of Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois all holding gold in recent times.
Another former world champion from the UK was Hatton, who defeated fighters such as Kostya Tszyu, Jose Luis Castillo and Paulie Malignaggi on his way to claiming world honours at both 140lbs and 147lbs.
That success helped Hatton become one of the most beloved sportsmen in the entire country, but he sadly passed away back in September at the age of 46, resulting in an outpouring of emotion around the world.
Hatton had actually been training for a scheduled comeback fight against Eisa Al Dah in Dubai in December, but he is now set to replaced by another former welterweight world champion.
A post on social media has revealed that Kell Brook will be stepping in to replace Hatton, with the event now taking place on February 13, and dedicated to the memory of ‘The Hitman.’
Brook held the IBF welterweight title from 2014 to 2017 after defeating Shawn Porter, and has also shared the ring with the likes of Gennady Golovkin and Errol Spence in his career.
His last fight came in February 2022 when he overcame bitter rival Amir Khan by sixth round stoppage, with that fight coming after years of rivalry between the two men.
