British trainer Shane McGuigan has predicted the outcome of the impending heavyweight clash between Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois.

It has been widely suggested that Ipswich’s Wardley will make the maiden defence of his WBO world heavyweight title against countryman Dubois within the next couple of months.

‘Dynamite’ Dubois has been out of action since he suffered a brutal fifth round stoppage defeat to Ukrainian great Oleksandr Usyk during their historic rematch at Wembley Stadium last July.

As for Wardley, the unbeaten 31-year-old produced the best win of his career to date back in October when he stopped former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker in the penultimate round of their clash at the O2 Arena in London.

Speaking to Seconds Out, Dubois’ former coach McGuigan spoke fondly of the former IBF heavyweight champion as he claims he is ‘more experienced’ than potential future rival Wardley.

“I think he’s learned a lot from the Usyk fights. He’s learned a lot from his wins as well as his losses so some people mature slightly later on in life in terms of experience. You could have a load of fights in your early twenties but you’re not getting anything from them.

“But where he’s got his experience from now he’s gotten from the Miller fights, the Lerena fights, things like that. And obviously AJ and those sorts of experiences, he’s seen big time boxing.

“You’ve got Fabio Wardley there. Daniel has a lot more experienced than him and I think that would be a great fight for Daniel. Both massive punchers. But it would be who stays disciplined the most and I think it’s definitely a winnable fight.”

McGuigan was then asked if he believes Dubois is capable of defeating Wardley should their paths cross eventually.

“If he boxes him, yes. [If he] goes out there and tries to knock him out, I don’t think so.”

Dubois linked up with Tony Sims after he was beaten by Usyk back in the summer but it has now been confirmed that the 28-year-old from London has returned to trainer Don Charles ahead of his return to the ring.
