A former unified world heavyweight champion is in discussions for a potential showdown with Jake Paul this December.
‘The Problem Child’ remains on the hunt for a brand new opponent after his clash with reigning WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis was cancelled.
Paul was scheduled to face ‘Tank’ in a ten round exhibition bout at the Kaseya Center in Miami on November 14 before the controversial match-up was scrapped after Davis landed himself in trouble once again after being named in a civil lawsuit for domestic allegations.
It has now been confirmed that Paul’s return to the ring has been pushed back to December, giving the 28-year-old from Phoenix extra time to prepare for a new opponent, with an official announcement expected to be made in due course.
As revealed by Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn, there is a possibility that Paul could actually lock horns with two-time unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in December, although he does admit that these negotiations are still in the early stages.
“There’s been some conversations with myself and Nakisa [Paul’s business partner]. I think Jake and AJ have spoke as well. You know, from our point of view, if we can have a run out fight why not run out against Jake Paul? You know, for a lot of money.
“So, there’s ongoing conversations there. I can’t tell you it’s close, I can’t tell you we’ve seen a contract. But if he genuinely wants to fight Anthony Joshua I don’t see why we wouldn’t have a chance to do that fight.”
Joshua is said to be edging closer to making his highly-anticipated return to the ring, with his last outing ending in a shock fifth round stoppage defeat to former IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in September 2024.
