A former world heavyweight champion who defeated George Foreman has shared his thoughts on the upcoming battle between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.
After beginning his second reign as undisputed super-middleweight champion on May 3, Canelo will defend his crown against the 37-year-old from Omaha, who is making the huge jump up to 168lbs having campaigned at welterweight for most of his career.
Crawford achieved undisputed status at 147lbs in the summer of 2023 when he defeated Errol Spence Jr before making the move up to super-welterweight last August to dethrone former WBA champion Israil Madrimov in Los Angeles.
In an interview with Fight Hub TV, former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs did not hesitate to back Crawford to get the job done against the Mexican icon, as he backs the unbeaten 37-year-old to win the fight by stoppage.
”Yeah I think it’s going to be a great fight. I got Crawford by stoppage and I’ve known him since he was a little kid, you know, 12-years-old, so to see him now fighting for a title in such a big fight it’s a great experience, it’s great to see.”
As he prepares for the toughest test of his exceptional career, Crawford appears to be motivated by the possibility of writing his name into boxing history once again, as he will become the first male fighter ever to win an undisputed championship in three divisions should he be victorious on September 13.
