Former Heavyweight Champion Says ‘Nobody Is Safe’ As He Vows To Win Back The World Title

A former long-reigning world heavyweight champion has put the rest of the division on notice as he prepares to pursue another title shot.

It was a little under six years ago when Deontay Wilder’s reign as WBC heavyweight champion came to an end after he was stopped in the seventh round of his rematch with Tyson Fury at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ has suffered several more defeats since that forgettable night in Las Vegas but the 40-year-old from Alabama remains set on securing himself another shot at the world heavyweight championship.

Wilder was last in action on June 27 when he stopped countryman Tyrrell Herndon in the seventh round of their non-title showdown at the Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kansas.

Talking to Boxing Social, Wilder spoke just moments after he had a heated exchange with British veteran Derek Chisora, as he claims ‘nobody is safe’ in the heavyweight division.

“This is the fight business. No one is safe, you understand me? Nobody is safe in the fight business and you just never know who wanna pick a bone with you and stuff like that. I know Derek. I been knowing Derek for a long time. I know how he is so I know what’s up. When he came up to me it’s like a challenge.”

Multiple reports have suggested that Wilder could be next in line to challenge unified WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk next, with both fighters said to be interested in sharing the ring.
