A former world heavyweight champion looks set to return to the ring soon.
The current king of the banner division is Oleksandr Usyk, who knocked out Daniel Dubois inside five rounds back in July to add the IBF belt back to his collection and ensure he was the holder of all four world titles at heavyweight for the second time.
There are a number of hungry challengers hoping to be Usyk’s next opponent, including top contenders like Joseph Parker and Agit Kabayel, while former world champions such as Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury continue to tease potential bouts in 2026.
It is another big name though who has revealed he is on the brink of announcing his next move, after Deontay Wilder revealed an update on his return.
Wilder was the former long-term WBC heavyweight champion, making a number of defences of his title before losing it by stoppage to Fury in 2020.
That started a bad run of form for Wilder, with another defeat to Fury, along with losses to Parker and Zhilei Zhang following, but ‘The Bronze Bomber’ did win his latest fight in June when he stopped Tyrrell Herndon.
Wilder has now stated in a YouTube interview with N3ON that he’s agreed to his next bout, and hinted that it is going to lead to him becoming a two-time world heavyweight champion.
“I do have something coming up. We’re looking at January. We’ve signed the contract already. No details at this point but it’s definitely live and going to happen. I got a big year next year, I’m looking forward to it, I’m excited about it. All I can say is ‘two time!'”
While it is yet to be announced who Wilder will be taking on, the likes of Andy Ruiz and Jarrell Miller have been linked as potential opponents in recent weeks.
