Former Anthony Joshua Trainer Rob McCracken Delivers Verdict On Tyson Fury Fight

Rob McCracken knows Anthony Joshua better than most, so he is well placed to talk about his upcoming fight with Tyson Fury.

McCracken played a pivotal role in Joshua’s rise by serving as his long-time trainer throughout his amateur career and early professional success.

He guided ‘AJ’ first to Olympic glory and his first world title in 2016, as well as unification wins over Wladimir Klitschko and Joseph Parker, though they parted ways after Joshua lost the first fight to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021.

Joshua lost the rematch, and was then knocked out by Daniel Dubois in an IBF title fight in September 2024, but has registered two wins since then – KOs of Jake Paul and Kristian Prenga – to now be in a position to finally share the ring with Fury, who is also currently without a world title after twice losing to Usyk.

Speaking to Seconds Out, McCracken was asked if he thought ‘AJ’ was ready for the fight and what might happen.

“Anything can happen in heavyweight boxing. You can have a night that’s not great but yeah it just depends when the fight takes place and what preparation the fighters have. I think they will need a little bit more time to get ready, the both of them.

“Everybody in the world is looking forward to it. Maybe a little bit later than they wanted it but let’s see on the night. It’s heavyweight boxing’s anything can happen. It’s for AJ to make the changes to get it back to where he was.”

Andy Lee, who is a part of Fury’s team, also thinks an extra warm-up fight for ‘AJ’ would be a wise move.

Exact details are yet to be finalised; however, the pair are expected to come to blows in New York at the iconic Madison Square Garden in November.
