A former undisputed champion has finally called for a showdown with pound-for-pound great Terence Crawford.

‘Bud’ Crawford extended his professional record to 42-0 last month when he defeated Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez to capture the undisputed super-middleweight championship in their historic clash at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

The 38-year-old from Omaha put on an outstanding display to become the first male fighter in boxing history to capture an undisputed championship in three weight classes, a feat he has already achieved at light-welterweight and welterweight respectively.

As he prepares to enter what could be the final chapter of his glittering professional career, Crawford has been targeted for a showdown with former undisputed light-middleweight champion Jermell Charlo.

Speaking on social media, Charlo didn’t hesitate to stake his claim for a clash with countryman Crawford, as he claims he is the only fight left for ‘Bud’..

“I want all the smoke, I want smoke with Crawford, give me the best s**t, I’m in shape, I train, my lifestyle is on the move, everything is great so why the f**k wouldn’t I want the best man?

“What y’all talking about dog? I don’t got time to be playing with none of these people with these promotions and all of this, I’m with the old school boxing.

If they gave me an offer for Crawford, it would be an honour to get in the ring with him, he complete something that I didn’t complete.

I’d give him the best fight of today’s era, I don’t think there is any other fight out there for Crawford to make right now, the best fight would be me.”

Charlo has been inactive since he suffered the first defeat of his professional career to Canelo back in September of 2023, falling short in his attempt at becoming the undisputed champion at 168lbs.

The 35-year-old has been hinting at a potential return to the ring for a number of months now, with reports suggesting that he could finally make his comeback to the sport during the early stages of 2026.
