A former undisputed world champion is targeting a showdown with David Benavidez.

Benavidez, known as ‘The Monster’, currently reigns as the WBC light-heavyweight champion after he was elevated from interim titleholder earlier this year.

The 28-year-old from Phoenix, Arizona remains unbeaten as a professional since his debut back in 2013, defeating the likes of Caleb Plant, David Morrell and Oleksandr Gvozdyk to name a few.

As he prepares to make the first defence of his crown against Britain’s Anthony Yarde on November 22, Benavidez appears to be on the radar of former undisputed light-heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev.

Beterbiev suffered the first defeat of his career back in February when he was outpointed by countryman Dmitry Bivol in their thrilling rematch in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In an interview with Seconds Out, Beterbiev’s trainer Marc Ramsey admitted that they would be interested in facing Benavidez should the opportunity present itself to the 40-year-old from Russia.

“Why not? This is business. We’re going to give the fans what they want, and we’re going to chase those belts like we did before.”

Beterbiev became the first undisputed light-heavyweight champion of the ‘four belt era’ last October when he defeated Bivol via majority decision in their first fight.

The 40-year-old had been in preparations for a trilogy showdown with Bivol, which was in the pipeline to take place before the end of the year, but it has been reported in recent weeks that this has now been delayed until the early stages of 2026.

Beterbiev is now set to make his return to the ring on November 22 as he faces hard-hitting American contender Deon Nicholson at the ANB Arena in Riyadh.
