A former undisputed world champion is preparing to make his long-awaited return to the ring after a several year hiatus.
It has been just over two years since former undisputed light-middleweight champion Jermell Charlo was last in action, suffering the first defeat of his professional career to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in September of 2023.
Charlo was dropped and looked out of his depth against the Mexican superstar, who boxed his way to a comprehensive unanimous decision victory over the previously unbeaten American to retain his undisputed super-middleweight championship for the third time.
The 35-year-old had suffered just one defeat prior to his showdown with Canelo, which came against countryman Tony Harrison by unanimous decision at the Barclays Center in New York in December 2018.
Charlo did get his revenge over Harrison just one year later however, stopping his rival in the penultimate round of their rematch in California to regain the WBC light-middleweight title.
Ahead of his long-awaited return to action, Charlo – who recently said on Instagram lives he wants “all the smoke” and to “fight the best” – is back in the gym and appears to be working hard behind the scenes, as a number of fans react to the short clip that was shared recently.

It is expected that Charlo will be back in the ring at some stage during the first quarter of 2026, with further information on a fight date and opponent expected to be announced in due course.
