Moses Itauma is being eyed up for a fight by a former world champion.
The Brit is one of the hottest properties in the heavyweight division right now. He is just 20-years-old but has already had 13 fights and won 11 of them by KO.
Nine of those wins have come inside the first two rounds and last time out he blew away former world title challenger Dillian Whyte in the opening two minutes when they met in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia back in August.
Although he stated he feels he is ready to face undisputed king Oleksandr Usyk following that win, Itauma is instead being built a little more slowly by his promoter Frank Warren.
It was revealed last week that he had been ordered by the WBA to face the 44-year-old Bulgarian veteran Kubrat Pulev, the current WBA Regular champion who has previously fought the likes of Anthony Joshua and Derek Chisora.
Speaking on talkSPORT, promoter Al Siesta outlined that Gassiev is willing to face Itauma after he faces Pulev on the IBA’s show in Dubai.
“Pulev is a great fight for Itauma cause it’s an easy fight. Pulev is a great professional but Itauma is on a really good run. Gassiev coming out of the woodwork, great cruiserweight, incredible heavyweight, just won in America and now he’s in contention.
“Gassiev will knock Pulev out and then he will embrace Ituama, he can be next. Murrat Gassiev against Moses Itauma is much better with than Moses Itauma versus Pulev. The only downfall for Itauma, is that Gassiev will be the champion.”
Russia’s Gassiev carried knockout power as a former unified cruiserweight world champion who held the IBF and WBA titles before moving up to heavyweight.
Trained by Abel Sanchez, Gassiev blends precision with explosive strength and is keen to make his mark in the higher division. Following a close points loss to Otto Wallin in 2023, he has scored stoppage wins over Kem Ljungquist and Jeremiah Milton and now aims to do the same against Pulev.
