Former World Champion Says He Would Have Knocked Out Joe Calzaghe: “That’s Why He Didn’t Fight Me”

A former world champion claims he would have been the first man to ever stop Joe Calzaghe.

The celebrated Welshman is one of the very few boxers to have retired undefeated. He did so after 46 contests and set many records. He was a super-middleweight champion for 10 years and made more than 20 defences of his titles.

He fought a who’s who of the division, including Chris Eubank, Mikkel Kessler, Jeff Lacy, Sakio Bika and many more before moving up to light heavyweight for his final two contests. Both resulted in further wins for Calzaghe despite being against legends of the sport, Roy Jones Jr and Bernard Hopkins.

However, one man he famously did not fight was fellow British super middleweight world champion Carl Froch. Speaking on his own YouTube channel, ‘The Cobra’ reckons he might have been able to stop Calzaghe.

“If I boxed Joe Calzaghe back then, this is how it would have gone. Two possible outcomes. He would have either beaten me on points, cause he’s very good, very strong, very good fighter. Or, I’d have chined him, I’d have knocked him el sparko.

“I’d have backed myself to knock him out. I think the Calzaghe fight should have happened, and it should have happened for the fans, but it didn’t. I’m totally blaming Joe Calzaghe on that, ’cause I think he knows he would have got Cobra’d.”

One man who fought and lost to both of them has claimed that Froch would have indeed won by knockout.
