Derek Chisora 50th Fight Opponent Lined Up And Fans Have Plenty To Say

Derek Chisora is set for fight number 50 this December in Manchester if he can secure an opponent – and he is reportedly now close.

The British fan-favourite heavyweight is currently enjoying an Indian summer on what has been a long and eventful career. Defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, Joseph Parker and Tyson Fury between 2020 and 2022 left many in the sport feeling that retirement loomed, but ‘Del Boy’ has bounced back and built up three wins to get himself well ranked once again.

After defeating Gerald Washington on points, Chisora bested countryman Joe Joyce and then Swedish southpaw Otto Wallin. He is now number 2 with the IBF and in a good position to close out his campaign with some big fights. He has been adamant that number 50 will be his last.

China’s Zhilei Zhang recently revealed that he had accepted an offer in principle to face Chisora, however the Brit’s team had then not responded further.

It is now being reported by multiple sources that controversial heavyweight Jarrell Miller has taken the fight.

Miller has been out of action since a draw with Andy Ruiz in 2023. He was set to face Chisora before contractual issues saw Wallin get the opportunity. ‘Big Baby’ Miller then signed to fight British puncher Fabio Wardley in June but was forced to pull out due to injury.

Whilst many fans said that the match-up was intriguing when reacting to the reports, others warned the it another cancellation could be round the corner due to the fight failing to materialise in the past. Others said that they much prefered the Zhang bout, and some brought up Miller’s past run-ins with anti-doping, having famously failed tests in the run-up to his cancelled fight against Anthony Joshua. The American, who has 22 knockouts from 26 wins and has lost only to Daniel Dubois, has been suspended and banned in the past for testing positive for performance enhancing substances.

More news on the match-up is expected soon.
