Terence Crawford is currently searching for his next opponent.
It was thought that he would then have a unification clash with WBC and WBO champion Sebastian Fundora, after the fight was called upon by the WBO.
Ahead of the deadline for negotiations, Crawford and Fundora reached a resolution to allow Fundora to have a voluntary defence against Errol Spence in early 2025, with a fight against ‘Bud’ then set to occur later in the year.
It means that Crawford’s next bout is still up in the air, but one fighter has accepted terms to face him.
That man is Vergil Ortiz, the undefeated sensation who holds a record of 22-0, with a mammoth 21 of those wins coming by knockout.
The first time he went the distance was in his last outing, when he beat Serhii Bohachuk by majority decision in an action-packed contest to win the WBC interim super-welterweight title.
Ortiz is promoted by Golden Boy, and president Eric Gomez revealed that while his man has accepted the fight with Crawford, they’re awaiting an answer from ‘Bud.’
“We just want the biggest fights. We were approached about doing a Crawford fight, we accepted, but Crawford hasn’t decided what he wants to do.
He [Ortiz] wants to fight Crawford, we’re willing to do that fight. There’s a couple of other names out there, we just want the biggest best fights possible.”
Along with the possibility of an Ortiz fight, there is still the option of ‘Bud’ taking on Canelo Alvarez, and one man who has sparred both men has offered their prediction for the potential match-up.
