Floyd Mayweather Names ‘Underrated’ Fighter As The Best Ever From Britain: “Give Him His Props”

Floyd Mayweather knows a thing or two about what it takes to be a boxing great.

The American is one of the few to have retired from the sport unbeaten. His record sits at 50 fights and 50 wins, 27 of them by knockout.

Mayweather faced a who’s who of talent across his career, including 24 wins against former or current world title holders and five wins against Hall of Famers. In 2018 he was rated as the highest paid athlete of them all.

In 2007, one of his most famous wins came against Ricky Hatton, the only Brit he ever faced but not one he credits as being the best ever.

As revealed to the media, including Seconds Out, that is an honour he reserves for Naseem Hamed, the featherweight world champion who held several belts between 1995 and 2000 including being the lineal ruler.

“It’s so crazy that me. Prince Naseem Hamed, he don’t get the props that he truly deserves. We still speak on a regular basis. Hell of a showman. A lot of people in the UK forget about him. We need to give him his flowers, Unbelievable. One of the best fighters to come from the UK, if not the best.”

He was then asked about how close a fight between the two had come.

“If you go back and look at my interview as Pretty Boy Floyd, I wanted to fight everybody.”

‘Prince Nas’ beat the likes of Wilfredo Vázquez and César Soto, with just one loss coming against Marco Antonio Barrera in April 2001, a year before his final fight, a unanimous decision win against Manuel Calvo. Like Mayweather, he was known for his showboating, fast reflexes and razor-sharp punching.
