Floyd Mayweather is an all-time boxing great and one of the very few men to retire unbeaten in the professional ring.
‘Pretty Boy’ or ‘TBE (The Best Ever)’ was famous for his superb defensive abilities and the seed of his mind, feet and punching.
He won 15 major world championships across five weight classes from super featherweight to super welterweight and beat famous opponents such as Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Oscar De La Hoya and Arturo Gatti.
Speaking with Fat Joe, Mayweather was asked to name his greatest-ever heavyweight and went with ‘The Easton Assassin’, Larry Holmes.
“I gotta be honest, I gotta go Larry Holmes. Larry Holmes beat everybody in his era. He had the basic fundamentals, he had the jab.”
Holmes’s career spanned more than two decades and it began as a sparring partner for the great Muhammad Ali. After honing his skills he soon made his own mark and became the WBC heavyweight champion by defeating Ken Norton in an epic 15-round battle in 1978.
He went on to defend his title 20 times and beat the likes of Ali, Earnie Shavers, Gerry Cooney and Tim Witherspoon, and recently named the hardest-hitting of them all.
Although he initially retired in 1986, Holmes made several comebacks in order to face then-contemporary stars and fellow legends of the game like Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield, both of which he lost.
Holmes eventually retired for good in 2002 and left the ring with a professional record of 69 wins, 44 by knockout, and just six losses.
