Floyd Mayweather Jr has revealed who he believes had the best chin in boxing history.
The 48-year-old from Grand Rapids, Michigan enjoyed one of the most glittering careers that the sport has ever seen, remaining unbeaten through all 50 of his professional contests as well as capturing world titles across five weight divisions.
‘Money’ fought, and defeated, a number of legendary fighters during his tenure including the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez to name a few. He drew the curtain on his professional career at the back end of 2017, shortly after he beat MMA legend Conor McGregor.
Whilst building his ‘ultimate fighter’ in a segment with Mail Sport Boxing, Mayweather didn’t hesitate to name retired Samoan-New Zealand heavyweight David Tua as the man who had the greatest chin in the history of the sport.
Known for his thunderous punching power, in particular his left hook, Tua spent the majority of his career as a highly-ranked heavyweight, despite never actually winning any versions of a world title.
Tua’s career spanned between 1992 and 2013, winning 52 of his 59 contests. Although he picked up impressive wins against a number of fighters included former world heavyweight champions Michael Moorer and John Ruiz, Tua challenged unsuccessfully for the heavyweight championship against Lennox Lewis 25-years ago.
Tua finally walked away from the sport after a brief comeback in 2013, shortly after he was beaten by Alexander Ustinov via unanimous decision having not fought in 2-years.
