Floyd Mayweather Has No Doubt Who The Current Best Fighter On The Planet Is

The mythical debate about who is the best boxer on the planet regardless of division is always entertaining, and Floyd Mayweather is more qualified than most to weigh in.

Mayweather dominated the talk for many years throughout his storied career. Across 50 fights he remained undefeated and won belts in several divisions while taking on a huge list of champions and former champions.

As such he is well placed to give his view on the matter and was recently asked by Boxing Mane who he thinks is the pound-for-pound king right now. He mentioned a couple names he feels are close to the top.

“We can put [Gervonta] ‘Tank’ [Davis] up there in the Top 10 in pound-for-pound, he has to be somewhere in pound-for-pound. And [Saul] ‘Canelo’ [Alvarez] has done something that was amazing, when ‘Canelo’ was able to go to light heavyweight and become light heavyweight champion something that I didn’t even see him going up that heavy and he did that.”

Finally, he made his ultimate pick and went with Terence Crawford.

“As of right now, I’d put Terence Crawford as number one.”

Crawford hasn’t fought since beating Errol Spence Jr in great fashion last July. That win left him with all four of the major belts at welterweight.

Next time out he is going up to try his hand at 154, his first fight at the new weight being Israil Madrimov on August 3.

Should he come through that, many people would love to see him fight Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. Although the weight difference between the two champions might prove to be too much, that’s one way to secure his place as number one pound-for-pound,
