Floyd Mayweather Jr has had his say on the credentials of pound-for-pound superstar Terence Crawford.
‘Money’ Mayweather walked away from professional prize-fighting shortly after he secured the 50th and final victory of his glittering career against MMA legend Conor McGregor back in 2017.
The 47-year-old from Grand Rapids, Michigan captured 15 world championship across five-weight divisions during his career, making him one of the most decorated and influential fighters in the history of boxing.
Since drawing the curtain on his career, Mayweather has transitioned into exhibition boxing where he has faced the likes of Logan Paul, Tenshin Nasukawa and Aaron Chalmers, with his last outing coming against John Gotti III last August.
Mayweather has kept a watchful eye over some of boxing’s biggest and best names since his retirement, including ‘Bud’ Crawford who is regarded by many as the best active fighter on the planet.
In a recent interview with Brian Mazique, ‘Money’ shared his own thoughts on Crawford and where he believes the 37-year-old from Omaha currently sits in the pound-for-pound ranks.
“I think Terence Crawford right now in the sport of boxing is the pound-for-pound best fighter, it’s good to see him in the position that he’s in.”
Crawford himself has enjoyed incredible success throughout his career, capturing world title in four weight divisions as well as the undisputed championship at super lightweight and welterweight.
The 37-year-old is currently preparing for a mega-fight against Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, which is due to take place in Las Vegas this September. ‘Bud’ could end 2025 as a world champion in five weight classes, with the prospect of becoming a three-weight undisputed champion also looming large for the American star, with Canelo looking to add the IBF crown to his WBC, WBA and WBO titles when he faces William Scull on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
