George Foreman Names The Hardest Puncher In Heavyweight History: “Nobody Has Ever Hit Like Him”

George Foreman is viewed as one of the hardest hitters of all time, but it is another man that ‘Big George’ deems as the best.

Foreman is a two-time world heavyweight champion, and holds the accolade as being the oldest person to ever lift gold in the banner division.

His record ended with 76 wins and just 5 defeats, with 68 of his victories coming by knockout, displaying first hand just how powerful he was.

Foreman knocked out fighters such as Joe Frazier, Ken Norton and Michael Moorer during his career, but he has now named who he thinks was even more powerful.

Whilst speaking to ESPN, ‘Big George’ revealed that he considers Earnie Shavers to be the hardest hitting heavyweight ever.

“Nobody can hit like Earnie Shavers. He had a crunch punch. Like a welterweight he brought it back, whap!

“If he happened to catch you you were gonna take a stroll down memory lane trying to remember what the hell am I doing here? And Earnie Shavers was the best as far as executing the punch.”

Shavers saw 70 of his 76 victories come by knockout, stopping the likes of Ken Norton, Jimmy Ellis and Jimmy Young during his time in the ring which ranged from 1969 to 1995.

He also challenged for the world heavyweight title on two occasions, losing to Muhammad Ali in 1977 and to Larry Holmes in 1979.

Shavers sadly passed away in September 2022 at the age of 78, but before he died he named who he felt was the one heavyweight even better than Ali.
