Like many others in the sport, George Foreman has been keeping an eye on Jake Paul ahead of his controversial bout with Mike Tyson.
Tyson last competed professionally in 2005, retiring on back-to-back defeats and a self-proclaimed loss of love for boxing. 15 years later, YouTuber Paul made a brash entry into the sport, competing against other content creators and athletes before graduating to former UFC fighters and some low-level boxers.
Speaking to TMZ Sports following Paul’s knockout of former basketball star Nate Robinson, ‘Big’ George recognised the 27-year-old’s power via the overhand right, saying, “could’ve put me to sleep.”
Paul’s power is the main reason that many in the sport feel the Tyson bout shouldn’t go ahead, even despite the shorter rounds and bigger gloves. He has seven knockouts from 10 wins including an ESPN Knockout of the Year over Tyron Woodley in 2021.
For his part, ‘Iron’ Mike is undeterred. He is confident he can roll back the years to win the fight and end the younger man’s fledgling campaign. Foreman, in a separate interview with NY Fights, was asked about the prospect of the former undisputed heavyweight champion scoring a knockout.
“Jake Paul is no pushover and he is not afraid of any of these guys. Time is on his side. So happy for Mike Tyson, he needed this excitement in his life. Everyone is talking about it. Answer to your question: “No.”
Tyson and Paul face off on November 15 at the AT&T Stadium in Texas. The event will be streamed live on Netflix.
