George Foreman Once Predicted Prime Sugar Ray Leonard vs Floyd Mayweather: “I’m Picking Him”

Sugar Ray Leonard against Floyd Mayweather is a fantasy fight that many people have predicted and boxing legend George Foreman is one of them.

Leonard was a five-weight world champion, with the bulk of his success coming during the 1980s, where he became a member of the ‘Four Kings’ alongside fellow greats Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns and Marvin Hagler.

The quartet were all involved in fights with one another, with Leonard the only one of them to beat the other three, as he ended his career with a record of 36 wins, 3 defeats and 1 draw.

One of those victories came against Floyd Mayweather Sr, but Mayweather Jr was able to vastly outperform his father’s achievements, as he retired with a perfect 50-0 record after defeating some of the biggest names in the sport such as Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez.

Just like Leonard, Mayweather became a five-weight world champion, and before heavyweight icon Foreman sadly passed away he once shared his verdict on who would have come out on top between the two men.

Speaking during a fans forum, Foreman revealed that if both fighters were in their prime, he’d have sided with Leonard.

“It took years for Floyd Mayweather to achieve such greatness. Prime versus prime (I’d go for Sugar Ray) Leonard. But (if it was a ) veteran versus veteran (fight, I’d go for Floyd) Mayweather.”

Foreman was a legend in his own right, becoming a two-time world heavyweight champion, the second of those reigns making him the oldest world heavyweight champion in history.
