“Did He Even Try?”: Mike Tyson’s Performance Against Jake Paul Questioned By Former World Champion

The controversy around Mike Tyson‘s fight with Jake Paul continues to roll on.

For the best part of a year now, this contest has had people talking. It saw the once fearsome and youngest-ever world heavyweight champion Tyson, a 58-year-old veteran of 58 fights, take on the 27-year-old former YouTuber who had only fought 11 times and lost once to Tommy Fury.

The fight was delayed from its original date due to medical issues for Tyson and finally played out in November at the AT&T Stadium. Tyson looked every bit his age. His legs deserted him which meant he was unable to set up and throw any big shots across the eight scheduled rounds so he came out on the wrong side of a points loss.

Speaking on Froch on Fighting, former super middleweight ruler Carl Froch laid into Paul and claimed it looked like Tyson wasn’t even trying to get the win.

“He fought one professional fighter, Tommy Fury, he got beat. Tommy Fury is like a journeyman, he’s area-level at best, he wouldn’t win a British title. And he lost. Then he’s just fought a 58-year-old Mike Tyson who looked like he didn’t even try.

“So just be honest and say Jake Paul is f***ing useless, he’s not and never will be a pro boxer and he has not one iota of a chance of being a world champion, it’s laughable.”

Since the fight, Paul and his team have had to make a formal statement to deny that the contest was scripted, as had been suggested by some.

Tyson announced he would never fight again while Paul will continue and has since been called out by Ryan Garcia and five other world champions.
