The controversy surrounding Chris Eubank Jr.‘s fight with Conor Benn continues.

The first time the two Brits were set to face off in October 2022 the entire fight card was pulled last minute due to Benn testing positive for a banned substance.

Now allowed to fight in the UK, he is just hours away from the rescheduled bout with Eubank, reigniting a rivalry that their fathers started back in the nineties. For the pleasure, Benn will be moving up two weight classes from his natural home at welterweight to meet his rival at the middleweight limit of 160lbs.

At the weigh-in, Benn tipped the scales at 156.4lbs. Eubank – who has been at middleweight since 2019, but has done some of his best work one class up at 168 – came in a fraction over the limit and was slapped with a $500,000.

Images of his weight cut, though not unusual, had fans worried, particularly because the 35-year-old also faced a 10lbs rehydration clause this morning. The general feeling is that, at this stage of his career, Eubank finds 160 a real struggle.

Scotland’s Josh Taylor, the first British undisputed champion in the ‘four-belt era’, took to social media to call for the fight to be canned again.

“I think it should be called off. Eubank looked terrible and he has a rehydration clause chucked in there on top of that as well. I think this is potentially a very disastrous night for boxing waiting to happen. I desperately hope this is not the case.”

Eubank made the limit this morning, weighing in at 169.4lbs. He will now be looking to rehydrate sufficiently and safely in the hours before the main event.
