World Champion Who Retired This Year With 83% KO Ratio Wants To Return And Fight Jake Paul

A recently retired world champion has set his sights on a showdown with Jake Paul.

Paul made his return to the ring against Mexico’s former WBC world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in California last week, defeating the 39-year-old via unanimous decision at the Honda Center in California.

The 28-year-old from Cleveland, Ohio has won all but one of his professional contests since making his debut back in 2020, suffering the only defeat of his career to Britain’s Tommy Fury in Diriyah back in February of 2023.

Paul also holds victories over a number of MMA legends including Anderson Silva, Nate Diaz and Tyron Woodley, as well as heavyweight boxing icon Mike Tyson who he defeated in their controversial bout in Texas last November. Despite that being the calibre of his record, he was recently named the top 14 cruiserweight in the world by the WBA – a decision the sanctioning body may reverse due to severe backlash.

Speaking to ES News, former light-heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev was asked if he could be tempted to make a comeback to the sport after retiring earlier this year.

“Of course, for a great fight, I’m ready, anywhere, anytime.”

‘Krusher’ was then asked if he would consider making a return for a showdown with Paul.

“Of course, f**k him. I’d like to fight him.”

Kovalev announced his retirement from the sport shortly after he defeated Artur Mann via 7th round stoppage when they fought in Chelyabinsk on April 25.

The 42-year-old Russian enjoyed considerable success throughout the course of his 16-year career, winning the world light-heavyweight championship on a number of occasions, defeating the likes of Jean Pascal, Bernard Hopkins and Anthony Yarde amongst a number of others.
