Errol Spence and Jaron Ennis appear to be in the sights of an ex-undisputed world champion.
Former WBC, WBA and IBF welterweight champion Spence hasn’t fought since back in July 2023, when he was stopped by Terence Crawford in the ninth round of their undisputed title showdown in Las Vegas.
Since then, ‘The Truth’ has been linked to a number of opponents and not announced retirement, with many fans hoping that he will finally make his return this year.
One man that has gone from strength to strength during Spence’s absence is Ennis, who became unified welterweight champion back in April when he stopped Eimantas Stanionis inside six rounds.
‘Boots’ has since vacated his WBA and IBF titles in order to move up to super-welterweight, where he will make his 154lbs debut against Uisma Lima in October.
It is a past ruler of that division who has set his sights on Spence and Ennis though – Jermell Charlo hinted at fights with the pair of them on social media.
Charlo posted images showing a lion biting a shark and a pair of boots, referring to the nicknames of both men, before also sharing the following message regarding his return.
“My two-year lay-off was not by choice. I been sitting back, watching letting ’em talk… but now it’s my turn. I’m back, sharper than ever, and I’m coning for everything, they thought I lost, I’m HIM.”
Charlo became undisputed super-welterweight champion in May 2022 with a victory over Brian Castano, before then heading to 168lbs in September 2023 to challenge Canelo Alvarez, suffering a unanimous decision defeat.
Nearly two years on, Charlo is expected to return to the ring soon, with another potential option seeing him face Abass Baraou, after it was revealed that the pair will be mandated to face each other soon.
